Aero 553 Details and Description
|
CO Guardian has just launched a new multi-function Carbon Monoxide Detector, Model Aero-553-101-001. Though the primary
function of the unit is to monitor CO levels from as low as 10 ppm, there is a whole lot more to this new instrument.
This latest CO detector from the CO Guardian family, with pleasing aesthetics and an easy to read LCD display, has been
designed to replace a standard 2-1/4” instrument panel clock. This saves you the trouble of finding additional panel space to
accommodate a stand-alone CO detector.
(Customers who have already purchased Aero 552 are advised of some changes in the installation/wiring of the unit. Kindly
download/read this page for more details. You may also wish to read a sample FAA form for Major Repair & Alteration).

Although the CO sensors in our CO detectors have a life of 5 to 7 years under ideal conditions and if protected from all external
contaminants, we recommend a re-calibration of the units after 5 years. The CO sensor is very sensitive, and certain external
substances in the ambient air can change its characteristics and affect its reliability.
The re-calibration can be done by us for a flat fee ( Please contact CO Guardian for pricing information). This service includes
installation of a new CO sensor, re-calibration, and a complete system check. You get a fresh 12 month warranty.
The Aero 553 comes with a 1 year limited warranty. The warranty will be void if the unit has been opened or tampered with. If you
experience any problems with the unit, please call 1-800-639-7139 or email us at support@coguardian.com and we will glad to
assist you and have the problem rectified.
My avionics shop needs to know if this unit is PMA'd or STC'd ?
This unit is not FAA certified yet, you will need a field approval on Form 337.
What type of probe is required for the OAT and IAT?
You can purchase the Aero 553 OAT Probe as an option. If no OAT probe is present the unit will show XXX for the outside
temperature and the unit will use the internal IAT probe for density calculation.
Does altitude alerts require any additional connection for input information?
No, the unit has a built-in Pressure sensor for that, so no external connection is needed.
Does this interface with PMA-7000B audio panel?
When ordering the PS Enginneering audio panel ask for the pre-recorded message with CO Guardian("CO Alert" message).
We have a display unit (PMA700M-S) connected to our unit. We use Message 6 Play on Pin 20 (J2 Top Connector on Installation
and Operator's Manual). You can use the same message(Message 6 Play - Pin 20 - J2 Top Connector on the PMA7000B audio
Panel going to Pin 12- 553 CO Guardian unit). Please contact PS Engineering, since PMA7000 must be ordered with CO Alert
installed.

Carbon Monoxide detection
|
Detects CO from as low as 10 PPM. Display level from 10 PPM to 999 PPM. Unit will alarm if CO level exceeds 50-70 PPM for more than 5 minutes. Instant alarm if level exceeds 150 PPM. Is designed to meet FAR 23.831
|
Clock function
|
Shows Local Time and Zulu Time in a 24 hour format.
|
Flight Timer
|
Flight Timer starts automatically on Take off when 150 ft above runway level. It can also be started manually.
|
Stop Watch
|
Stop watch function lets you time any segment of your flight.
|
Inside / Outside Air Temp
|
Keeps track of inside and outside air temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius.
|
Battery Voltage
|
You get instant alert when battery voltage drops / rises above pre-set levels for 14 / 28 V systems.
|
Cabin Altitude
|
Monitors cabin altitude and sounds an alert when you climb above 10,000 ft , 12,500 ft, and above 14,000 ft. This alerts the pilot to turn on the oxygen as may be required.
|
